To add this sticker to a profile, place the string similar to the text in Code used: column of Examples table anywhere in the biography part of the profile. Usually you should put it next to the text describing a Sticker, but it should always be below the == Biography == heading and above the == Sources == heading.

Scope

The End of Watch call is a ceremony observed by many first responder agencies (in the United States and Canada) after the death of a member, generally when the death occurred in the line of duty. The radio call is initiated by a dispatcher or senior officer who issues several calls to the fallen, followed by silence, then a call of either 10-7 (Out of Service) or 10-42 (Ending Tour of Duty) depending on the agency, and may also contain a memoriam type message.

As an example, see the Frank L Baranyai Sr End of Watch radio call.

First responders include, but are not limited to:

  • EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) - This includes all emergency clinicians that are trained to respond to emergency situations, such as Emergency Medical Responders, Primary Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics or Critical Care Paramedics.[1]
  • Firefighters - This includes both professional and Volunteer positions.[2]
  • Law Enforcement Officers (LEO, Police Officer, Peace Officer) - This includes all jobs where the primary duty is the enforcement of laws. Terms may vary from country to country.
  • Paramedics - See also: EMT[3]
  • Rescuers - This includes all jobs where the primary duty involves rescuing someone from harm or danger. These types of jobs often consist of highly trained individuals who are trained in specialty areas, such as technical rescue, diving, or extrication.[4]

Note: Military personnel who died in the line of duty should be honored by one of the many Military Stickers that are available; however, it is acceptable to use both Military and End of Watch stickers together if they are both applicable to the profile (e.g., was in the Military, and then transitioned into civilian life as LEO or Paramedic, and was then killed in the line of duty).
